Invention for 900 Hands
Yale, 2009
This experimental book retells a New York Times article about the beautiful, complex craftsmanship behind a Steinway grand piano. Four different fonts separate the layers of the story: the people, the materials, the process, and the sound quality.
The pages were hand-printed four separate times, so the overlapping letters and words show how closely the human labor and raw materials are woven together in the building process.
I made this book in 2009 as part of my MFA studies at Yale.
